IP cameras ? what do i need ?

by kristopher dibiagio on 10/13/11

Why IP well first they have a phenominal picture, i mean the clarity is unbelievable , they do have many differents ones starting around 1.3 megapixel all the way to 6 or 8 megapixel. But there is a downside to them as well the higher the megapixel gives you a tighter cleaner picture but you lose frame rate so 2 or 3 megapixel is optimal , think of it like a high definition tv , the more pixels you squeeze into a frame they get smaller thus giving you a tighter cleaner picture , but alot more information to process, so an 8 megapixel camera giving you a nicer picture takes alot more processing power to process the image . So what do you need for this system , you will need the cameras and lenses, a hefty computer with a good amount of memory and duel core processor , and a power over ethernet switch .These cameras can be powered by one network cable unlike the older ones that need a coax cable and power cable , yup video and power all down the same kind of cable for internet .

Why do i need a generator panel or manual transfer switch ?

by kristopher dibiagio on 10/10/11

Why ? To ensure safe operation of your electrical system. I get calls all the time with people askin if i can install an outlet at their electrical panel to plug in their generator and back feed their electrical system ??? The answer is NO its outright dangerous because if you forget to turn off your main breaker and the street power comes back on while the generator is running you can have an explosion from both power systems colliding  and your destroy electrical devices that are plugged in or even get killed so the answer is NO ! NO! and NO . Reliance  makes a variety of manual transfer switching panels , you can see what they look like clicking on my generator page , the more common ones are the 6 circuit and 10 circuit for 20 amp and 30 amp generators, what makes them safe ? These panels have 3 position circuit breakers line power, off, and generator power , 3 step process when you lose power . You plug your cord into the power inlet , start your generator, then click the switches to Gen on the transfer switch and you have safe power and thats it , when street power comes back you simply click the switches back to Line and the 2 power systems can never collide no matter what you do to keep you safe. A 6 circuit panel kit with the inlet and 10 ft. cord typically cost $300 and to install the panel and inlet within 10 ft. of the panel cost $450 so complete panel installation starts at $750. Some people thinks that is expensive but i'm sure its alot cheaper than when u forget to turn off the main while backfeeding  through a panel outlet or dryer plug and you fry half your house and possibly yourself, so think smart and have it done right.

Choosing the right contractor ?

by kristopher dibiagio on 05/15/11

There are alot of contractors out there  so which one do i choose . Well for one thing honesty , reliability, and delivery of products that they promise. Ask to see their contractors license, make sure its up to date . Check if they have insurance , if people ask me for it i give them my insurance agents number and tell them to call so they can fax it over.If their price is way cheaper than a few others there is something wrong , some guys out there that are way cheaper will ask for half down and either do some work and dissapear or just take the money and run , their price is a lot cheaper because either they don't know what their doing and not accounting for the hours it takes or they are just a crook.I post some pictures of work on my website so people can see the nice clean work i do

Sttandalone Dvr or Pc based Dvr security System ?

by kristopher dibiagio on 05/15/11

There are alot of systems out there from $200 - $4000.00 . When i started installing units i wasn't sure what was good to what was bad . Some of the basics are framerate ,reliability, quality of the picture and ease of operation. If you want security on a tight budget or don't need to view everyday, then a standalone unit is the way to go . If you want higher framerate and the best possible picture and to be able to view most of the day then i would recommend PC based system like Alnet whether it be regular or IP high resolution cameras . Pc  (personal computers) have seperate video cards and faster processors to handle video capture and compression giving you a nicer picture. Remote login software from alnet was designed for easier use, and lets face it we do not like complicated we like to point n click to view our activity on security cameras. Standalone units work pretty good but are built to the bare minimum specs with one circuit board and have few buttons and some people get frustrated or find them a bit intimidated . I build camera servers myself and  to last ,keeping in mind  computers get out dated fast so i always try to leave a comfort zone in case the customer wants to add more cameras to his or her system in the future without having to build a whole new system .Also be careful what contractor you choose these days i will blog more on that in a new thread, any questions feel free to email me .

Multifamily Rental Properties

by kristopher dibiagio on 04/27/11

Have rental property need it brought up to code    ? no problem we have done many of them over the years, from completely re-wiring to installing conduit in stairwells to install smoke detectors and new lighting on motion detection to conserve on power. Commonly we have to upgrade the service and install new panels to get rid of fuse panels, basement lighting, landlord meters.

Ip Camera section coming soon

by kristopher dibiagio on 04/27/11

IP cameras are different from your traditional ccd board camera or anolog camera . They have much higher resolution about15-20 times more resolution than the anolog digital cameras . They have been out for quite awhile now but at a higher cost ,cheaper model about $550-$600 + software ,hefty computer,,and installation . in about a month or so my supplier says new product line coming in a lot more affordable .

Alnet PC based system

by kristopher dibiagio on 04/24/11

I have been an Alnet dealer and using Alnet Systems Pc Dvr style camera input cards for about 5-6 years and they work great . I haven't had one break yet and everyone i installed runs 365 days/year 24/7 . The system has great picture quality ,features, and reliability all wrapped up in one card . The remote client software is easy to use , and you can login to multiple servers at once . I have installed microphones and its amazing when you login remotely  to see and hear the activity realtime .I custom build computers for these cards and they do cost a little more than the standalone units but they are worth the extra cost . Their new ip camera software offers even higher resolution than the ccd/digital cameras , i will post pics of the new ip cameras soon so you can see the difference , the image is amazing clarity even after zooming in after its been recorded.

Standalone DVR

by kristopher dibiagio on 04/24/11

A standalone dvr is a piece of video recording equipment the size of a vcr or house dvd player .The unit runs on software and records to a hard drive like your house computer. I only recommend using these when money is the main factor in buying a camera system . These units are least expensive and the recording quality is much lower than the alnet pc based system i sell. They are also more confusing for the customer to use . But still much better than having no system or a very low quality unit like some that at&t offer. The standalone units i offer do have remote viewing capability.

Dvr security ? what is it ? do i need it ?

by kristopher dibiagio on 04/24/11

DVR - Digital video recording  . DVR systems have a hard drive like your personal computer , so what does this mean ? No more vcr tapes like older camera systems. When the DVR system fills up the drive it just writes over the recorded footage starting with the oldest recording . So you don't change any tapes it just keeps rewriting over itself 100% efficient .

Do you need it , yes , it can help the police identify a burgler, or false insurance claims when someone falls or claims they fell at a business or rental property .It can cut down on employee theft and increase productivity .
